Charity Concert Supporting Indigenous Children from the Murray Island

About the Concert:

For those who have previously attended a Lyrebird Art concert before, welcome back and for those who haven’t, we’re so glad that you will be joining us! We are delighted to finally announce our concert that will take place on the 26th of November!

This year, the donations for the evening will be split. Part of the money will be used to buy pads for indigenous children on Murray Island to gain access to basic computer science and technological knowledge, while the other part will be used to support the Gurrumul Yunupingu Foundation. As can be seen, this year, we will be donating to causes closer to home as a way of giving back to the native land we live on.

The children from Murray Island that we will be donating to live in Mer, one of the three islands which make up the “Murray Group.” The island has a population of around 450, and while it is able to meet most national standards for food, water, and education, getting access to technology has been an issue for the 60 students in the school. While this may seem trivial, technology can be the key to connecting with the outside world and potentially learning specialized skills to find jobs outside their island.
